The\u00a0sun<\/b>\u00a0parakeet or\u00a0sun conure<\/b>\u00a0(Aratinga solstitialis) is a medium-sized brightly colored parrot native to northeastern South America. The adult male and female are similar in appearance, with predominantly golden-yellow plumage and orange-flushed underparts and face. It is commonly kept in aviculture.<\/p>\n

Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sun conures are lively, vocal, and expressive; this is a bird best known for its beauty and its big mouth. The sun conure is\u00a0approximately 12 inches<\/b>\u00a0long, and is most recognizable by its bright orange and yellow coloring, often mottled here and there with splotches of green.<\/p>\n

Talking Ability; <\/strong><\/p>\n

With some patience and effort, however, some\u00a0sun conure can<\/b>\u00a0indeed acquire speaking skills, although perhaps not as seamlessly as various other birds.<\/p>\n

Talking sun conure<\/b>\u00a0also do not generally develop extensive vocabularies, tending to learn just a handful of words and sentences.<\/p>\n

Diet;<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is important to include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables in your bird’s diet. Some healthy fruits include apples, grapes, bananas and melons. Vegetables such as carrots, broccoli, peas, collard greens, greenbeans and kidney, pinto and black beans also make great\u00a0conure<\/b>\u00a0food.<\/p>\n
